What is Diving?

Diving is an activity that involves 3 things: a jump, time in the air, and an entry into water. Competitive Diving is a sport where each one of these things is judged. A diver tries to jump as high as possible, perform in the air and enter the water with little or no splash. The diver with the most points wins.

Diving is favorite summer pastime for many youth growing up in the U.S. Most kids love all three of the aspects of diving: jumping off of a springboard, flying through the air and going into the water. There are thousands of pools in the U.S. with diving boards. Many pools offer open time for diving and some pools offer diving instruction.

Diving instruction and competition are great actrivies for young children because diving promotes healthy exercise, goal setting and hard work. Divers learn how to push past fears and increase strength.
